I don’t plan on big bonfires, so I won’t need limbs any bigger than maybe the circumference of my arm. This little saw is the perfect size for that. It came with the chain already assembled. All I had to do was add oil and press the auto oil bubble a few times. Batteries also arrived fully charged. I tested the saw on some small tree limbs that were already downed at my friend’s house. The limbs were about the circumference of my arm, as mentioned, and about 10 feet long. I cut up a couple of these limbs in a matter of minutes with hardly any effort at all. Just like slicing butter and not enough noise to annoy any neighbours. That part was great. But I noticed when I finished that sawdust from the limbs had gotten all gunky on the saw. It was in the grooves on the side of the housing, in the chain slot, everywhere. And it was slightly oily of course. It wasn’t like dry sawdust from carpentry where you can just blow it away. So I got an old toothbrush and tried to clean the saw up. I want it to be well-maintained and last a long time even if I rarely need to use it. (I was halfway through cleaning it when I realized I should have taken some photos. I will try to update the review with photos next time I clean it.) I kept finding more sawdust gunked into hard to reach spots, so I unscrewed the side housing (the same way you would to replace the chain). Got it all cleaned up nicely. Then came the nightmare of trying to get it back together. It LOOKS very simple. There is a notch here, and a slot there, etc. Clear where each part of the top fits onto the bottom. But getting it to GO there and STAY there while the chain was properly in place and the tension knob was tightened down was quite another matter. I probably fought with it for 20 minutes before finally getting it all snapped back together and properly tensioned. Maybe it will be easier the next time I have to clean it, but somehow I doubt it. To be fair, every friend I’ve ever had who owned any kind of chainsaw said chain replacement was enough to make you want to throw an expensive saw in the trash. So I don’t think I’m particularly incompetent. Hopefully I will remain patient and determined and have a long beneficial relationship with this one. Summation: it is exactly as expected, does a great job, and I would recommend. Just prepare yourself for some common frustration and maintenance. I chose this saw because the price is about mid-range and the reviews overall were positive.
