- This machine is elegant and seems stronger than most of similar price range.- The metal finish is nice. The description says its body is made of cast metal, note that much of it is actually plastic. It would be too heavy otherwise and it does not seem to impact its function or durability.- At first I thought it was too large but it actually looks just right next to a coffee maker and espresso machine.- The top container where you put the coffee beans, seems to be made of cheap plastic and looks as if it could easily break. Having said that, it only needs to be handled when you assemble the machine or clean it inside. Still, it would make me feel more comfortable to know I can buy a replacement if ever needed. Have not checked on it with the manufacturer yet but did not find it available on Amazon.- Many people say the machine does not work and they had to send it back... The biggest "issue" this machine presents is reflected in the reviews. It is actually due to no more than unclear instructions. If the above mentioned container is not locked in place, the machine will not turn on.The trouble is that it takes a lot to figure out what it means when the instructions say that you need to turn "the knob" 90 degrees until it locks into place. The only "knobs" I could see were the one to control the amount of coffee you are grinding and the one which defines how fine you want your grind to be. So WHAT KNOB?!?! After examining the machine carefully and trying to make sense of how it works, we finally figured it out! What they actually mean it that INSIDE the container, there is a structure that keeps the coffee beans from jamming into the grinder and THAT is what needs to be turned 90 degrees to open the passage for the coffee to go into the burr. It is very nice to have that feature because it prevents the container from being removed and hurting someone while in operation. It also stops the beans from falling out when you need to clean the machine and still have coffee bean in the container. So you turn the top of that structure which is inside the whole coffee bean container in order to lock it into place (see picture). Once understood, it is quite easy.- Important to mention that when you use the portafilter, it works by pressing it against the back of the machine. You will determine how much coffee will be ground, not relying on the front knob to stop at the number of cups you want.- Many people judge grinders without taking into consideration what coffee beans they are using. Some are greasier; harder; softer; dry; more roasted; greener; etc. That will greatly impact the machine's performance. I am using Lavazza coffee beans and it turns out great, without any mess and very consistent grounds.- The other point often mentioned in grinder reviews is regarding static and coffee grounds making a mess. Again, it depends on where you live and what is the local temperature and humidity. Some places don't have much static electricity issues and others do. You only have to worry about it if you live in a place where you often have your hair standing on end or your clothes clinging onto you and you tend to get "electrocuted" every time you touch your supermarket buggy! (A problem common in New Mexico during the winter but not in more humid places).Hope that helps you with your decision. I think this is a good choice of grinder and hope it will last for years to come.
