The default grind size is very fine. Adjust it using the metal "gear" looking piece that is on the threaded rod near the top. Unscrew the top gold screw, remove the handle and silver locking piece, then screw the gear up or down to change the grind size. You will be able to see the 2 pieces of the grinder getting closer or farther apart.
