Follow the video instructions and you’ll be fine. My truck had some nasty holograms from a previous buff/scratch removal. I prepped the surface as required (wash, clay bar, and isopropyl wipe). Following CG’s advice, I used the orange pad and v36. Two passes and the holograms were gone. The v36 is much less aggressive than I expected. I still have some minor swirling that I’m sure the v34 or v32 included in the kit will help remove. I was fairly intimidated after witnessing someone burn through their clear coat but the instructional videos on YouTube are fantastic. Surface prep is key. I was able to remove all the imperfections from my black truck. Black is an extremely difficult color and as a beginner I was impressed with how easy CG’s made the process! This is a great polisher/buffer for anyone. It is one of the few products where it is extremely user friendly. This polisher/buffer (everyone calls it something different) lets a weekend warrior have the ability to look like a professional. This package comes with everything you see in the picture. The polisher/buffer, a 4 pack of sale compounds and polishes (4 oz), and 3 pads. This is a complete system that gives you the ability to fix most car imperfections. But it is not a miricale worker. You have to put in the time and have the correct technique to get great results. Even then there are some things you will not be able to correct. So before you think "I don't want to buy this cause someone said it didn't work", realize that there are limitations to any paint corrections. I will talk about it again in a little bit. But first back to the review. The unit itself is built very well. It is a very sturdy and well balanced machine. "What does he mean by well balanced?" What I'm referring to is that, even on the lowest setting, you can handle this machine with one hand. The pads are hook and loop (velcro) and are 5.5". This is somewhat an odd size that puts you in a situation where you have to find them online most of the time. But to be honest is is a happy medium. Each pad has their own uses. You need to make sure you are using the right one for each situation. The compounds are from Chemical Guys based out of California. Their products are probably some of the best that I have ever used. They are very user friendly and have a great smell. Yes I said great smell. If you are going to compound or polish your car its nice to have something that has a pleasant scent. So if you have read it this far and know how to compound or polish a car that's all that I have. Those of you who don't know what to do can read on if you want. This is a small tutorial and list of products you will need in order to get great results.1: Wash your car. This is the starting point to any body work. You should use only microfiber. *DO NOT USE TERRY CLOTHS OR HOUSEHOLD RAGS* These rags will hurt your paint and cause small scratches.2: Clay BarGet your favorite clay bar and clay your paint and glass. Periodically fold the clay over and knead it to get a clean/fresh side. Use a clay bar lube or quick detailer spray. Do small sections at a time and wipe off excess product when complete.3:IPAMix Isopropyl Alcohol and distilled water in a spray bottle (I would research to see what you are comfortable with). This will strip any wax, clay bar, or sealant that remains on the vehicle.4: Determine the work you need to do.Many people jump into this with a all or nothing attitude. What need to do is look at all of the scratches, water spots, bird dropings, and any other imperfections. From there you need to determine what is the minimum that can be used to take out the scratches. If you have a lot of paint correction with deepnscratches you should compound. If it is just water spot with a few scratches then you need to polish. This step, though, is to determine what you need to use.5:Compound/PolishCompound is more abrasive than Polish. With this in mind, depending on what you determined in the previous step, start with the least aggressive to get the job done. If it doesn't work to get all imperfections out then move up in the compounds (like 36 to a 38 in this kit). Once you get all the imperfections out that you can then move down to a polish and polish the entire vehicle.6: Apply a sealant.I used Jet Seal recently. I personally like it. A sealant basically protects you paint from contaminate like water spots, dirt, and bird droppings. Jet seal also make your paint surface hydrophobic which is pretty nice.7: Apply your favorite wax.You can use whatever wax you want. I personally like using a liquid wax. A liquid wax can be spread with a polisher with the correct pad. We are here to work smarter not harder. That's all there is to it really. Just note that not all imperfections will come out. On a neglected paint job I would expect to get out about 90% of the imperfections. Then there are some things that you can not remove with the products in this package. Deep scratches that are into the color coat or show metal will not come out with these products. Orange peel is another imperfection that you can not buff out completely. These two types of imperfections will either need to be wet sanded or the panel will have to be repainted.Do your research. Look up different techniques if you would like. But once you feel comfortable with what you know, compounding and polishing is easy. And this kit gives you nearly everything you need.*Tip* use a permenant marker to put a line on the backing paint. This will allow you to see if it is free spinning on the paint or not.**Update**I have used these 4oz bottles on 2 vehicles now and I still have product. These foam pads are great but I would invest in more if you can. These pads are great for the do it yourselfer but if you want to use these for a commercial purpose then you should get more pads. I have used my orange pad quite a bit as it is the one I use to get out most of the deep scratches. Honestly, if you were to get a better cutting pad you would be better off.The machine itself is still in great condition and I have not regreted buying this one bit.Update 06/13/21:... well I used this kit several times and loved using it. I say "loved" because someone broke into my garage and decided they wanted to take it. I used if for 5 years and have bought different compounds and pads. It held up very well and I still highly recommend it. Chemical guys products are still by far the best products to work with and I highly recommend them.Perfect timing on this acquisition!I wrap cars. Trucks. Vans. Boats. Bikes. Anything with a good smooth surface. With vehicle prices out of control, more and more people are bringing me their peeling, mottled, rusting rides in the hopes of a new 'paint job' (wrap). With wrapping being an adhesive process, you're wrapping to a surface, if that surface isn't staying in place and coming up (ie clear coat), the wrap is going to be attached to chips of the coat and not the car.The polisher kit was almost the answer all on its own to a 2015 peeling Mazda. The car was used by my client to travel to meet with her clients, but she would ultimately park blocks away so she wouldn't be seen driving the car (yes, it looked that bad).Nice rotating/vibrating no swirl torqued polishing after slapping on 1000 grit sand paper (separate purchase). Easy to access the roof with its lighter form, but weighty enough to know there's substance behind the tool. Pads and appropriate compounds finished off the job, just in time to wrap the car...They always say "Happy client, happy life." (my version)I purchased this kit for my old 1970 Mustang and it worked perfect. The different polishing liquids it comes with helped put a shine on the paint. Before it was dull, now it is almost mirror like. The Torqx Orbital is so easy to use and has different speeds depending on what you are using.Waxing a car is one thing and machine polishing/cutting has been intimidating not fully knowing how and messing up paint of any my vehicles till now. My truck was hit in an intersection after insurance part then getting into shop for them to document damage they gave me the go ahead to polish it since they are out four months to get it in. Product came as described, also bought the full sized set of four CG finish and cutting compound since this kit did not have it. There is another kit that has smaller sizes but NOT all the pads and that was key for my job at hand.Machine was easy to use, ergonomic, and pads attached with hook and loop. I recommend for first timers the CG have some great videos out there. Familiarize yourself and understand your top coat, using cutting compounds and why. Swirl marks and removal. If you have BLACK PAINT you best be very careful it’s the toughest out there!!!Overall you can see in the photos I attached before and after. I am ECSTATIC how well CG system worked following the process, working in shaded area, and taking your time.Highly recommend. I feel confident now to detail the entire truck and make it shine!!!! THANK YOU CHEMICAL GUYS! Customer for life!I had some pretty bad black paint scuff marks in my silver car from a gate closing on it (from like 2 years ago). I finally took a Saturday and just went after it. The 36 / orange didn't get it but the 38 / orange did. Then I finished w/the 32 and car looks great; this works well. I watched a lot of videos by chemical guys etc. and for my first time I feel very good about it. I got wax etc. on the plastic parts and hit the headlights and scratched them a bit w/that 38; but all in all very happy for my 10 year old car.The torq machine is super great, bit heavy but not uncomfortable. It's well build and can't say enough what a fantastic machine it is for the average joe, the guy who just wants to try, and the professional detailer. The pads are suited for purpose so you have to know it's purpose, I needed a heavier cutting pad for some deep scratches and the 32 worked a bit but didn't quite do the job went for sonax and found the 32 better than sonax compund. The compound cutting pad supplied did wonders for swirl marks and minor stuff though. The compound did alot of polishing but boy did the 36 and 38 bring out a shine, I used 32 then 38 the results were incredible and it's a breeze to wipe off. The black pad was great for apply glaze and sealant, and I waxed by hand. I wouldn't mix Chem Guys products with other brands, stick with one brand for compound polish sealant and wax. I made the mistake in using meguairs wax great products but shouldn’t mix.I should note that I used autocolor compound before and nothing has beaten that compound for taking any scratches out too bad not I couldn't find it. All in all I'd highly recommend this machine and Chem Guys products for anyone regardless of your needs it will suit it quite well with excellent results.Bought this for dad for Xmas last year. He said it was pretty great. So I bought the exact one for myself. First time using this to shine up my new (to me) used pickup truck. Black. & even though I’ve worked in a body shop & know my around much bigger industrial polishers this is the first time ever doing my own vehicle with this... much more maneuverable polisher. The compounds & polishes provided with the polisher are amazing. I only had time to do one side today but Wholy crap it’s show room shiny & all the swirls & pretty significant scratches are all gone. The previous owner must have had a dog jump on the door with his paws because there was 4 nail marks right down the drivers side door. Lots of little scratches along the bed of the truck too. All gone ! It could only look better if I wet sanded it before using the compounds & polishes provided with this kit. I’m amazed. Truly. A really great purchase. I wish I had taken before pictures to post with some after pictures. After hesitating for years and tons of research I finally bought this polisher.Kit came as advertised, easy to set up and start using. Chemical Guys provide lots of tutorials and instructions.I was very impressed and thoroughly satisfied with the polisher. The results removing the swirls on my car were amazing. Improvements on the paint were immediate and so satisfying. The polisher is not too heavy, speed settings are good, the velcro attachments held solidly, the pads are top quality and the VSS swirl remover worked remarkably well. I finished off with Chemical guys Black Pearl and Jet seal. It looks like a professional job. This car is now 1000% better looking than when I picked it up new. ( I won't rant about my terrible experience picking up my new car that came with swirls, dirty mats etc. The stealerships did such a poor job of PDI and prep - it was just discusting ) Now it looks like it should have! Every hour, I go out to look at how beautiful the car looks. Chemical Guys are my go to car detaining company.I was ready to buy the Porter Cable polisher (tool only) and then the price jumped $25 overnight to I kept looking around and found this one. More or less the same polisher plus a few extra goodies included. Selling this as a kit is a great idea - especially for someone who is just getting into polishing. You get all the pads you’d ever need plus a decent selection of sample size polishes and cutters. Polisher is really easy to handle and not overly noisy. Build quality seems really good.polisher broke after 4 months, one year warranty but no one will help me get the warranty processed I talked with Amazon. they said talk to the chemical guys and the chemical guys say talk to Torq no way to get a hold of torq and it says on the web that chemical guys are the manufacturer of this polisher just a different division now chemical guys don't answer my emails will never buy anything though chemical guys again. and I will tell every person I know about this horrible experience of Amazon Chemical guys and Torq!!
